Stephen Creel is a licensed Marriage and Family Therapist who brings two decades of clinical experience to his work with individuals and families. He completed a Master of Arts in Clinical Psychology with an emphasis on Marriage and Family Therapy at Pepperdine University in April 2001, and has focused much of his career on substance use treatment.
Alongside addiction care, Stephen has substantial experience addressing co-dependency, depression, anxiety, self-esteem concerns, grief, and trauma. His work in substance use recovery highlighted for him that many addiction disorders are rooted in some form of traumatic experience, which led him to expand his clinical skills.
In 2019 Stephen completed training to provide Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR), an evidence-based approach used to help people process and recover from traumatic events. He also integrates Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, Dialectical Behavior Therapy, and a Family Systems approach as needed to tailor treatment to each person.
Stephen is licensed to practice marriage and family therapy in California (CA LMFT 44523), a credential that indicates his authorization to provide MFT services in the state. He strives to create a safe, caring environment where clients can work toward relief and greater freedom from the difficulties they face.
Many people wonder whether meeting with a therapist online can truly help. For a range of common concerns - including stress, anxiety, depression, relationship challenges, and life transitions - remote therapy has been shown to be as effective as traditional in-person care for most situations.
One significant benefit is flexibility. Clients can connect in the format that works best for them: video sessions, phone calls, live chat, or in-app messaging. This adaptability makes it easier to fit therapy into a busy schedule and maintain continuity of care.
All participating clinicians are licensed professionals, and clients have the option to request a different therapist at any time if they feel a different fit would be more helpful. Online therapy offers a practical, accessible way to work on mental health and relationship goals with qualified therapists.
