For the majority of his career Dr. Cipriano has used cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT) and, within the past two years, he began offering EMDR - Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing - to clients presenting with trauma-related symptoms. Dr. Cipriano has worked as an in-house staff psychologist for a large metropolitan police department in the southeastern United States, supporting a Crisis Negotiation Team and helping manage individuals in severe mental health crises. He has also assisted victims and families affected by the Parkland, Florida school shooting and offered support to first responders connected to that incident. As a psychological supervisor for a major metropolitan police department, he developed a wellness program from its inception and helped expand wellness initiatives for both sworn and civilian public safety personnel. He has written several articles on wellness and on sustaining wellbeing across different areas of life.
In addition to clinical and supervisory work, Dr. Cipriano provides expert training on the psychological dynamics and warning signs of active shooters, school-based violence, and bullying. He developed a clinical curriculum aimed at identifying, intervening, and potentially preventing acts along this spectrum of aggression, and his experience informs training for clinicians, educators, administrators, public safety professionals, and private-sector organizations at local, state, and national levels.
