About

Rick Fulton is a licensed professional counselor in Texas with 30 years of experience treating mental health and addiction issues. He earned a Master’s degree in Counseling from the University of North Texas in Denton and practices exclusively online from his private practice in Meridian, Texas. His clinical approach is rooted in cognitive behavioral therapy while also drawing on gestalt therapy, and he has worked in both inpatient and outpatient settings.

He has treated a broad range of concerns including stress and anxiety, addictions, anger, self-esteem and depression, relationship and family issues, trauma and abuse, grief, eating concerns, coping with life changes, compassion fatigue, and ADHD. He has also worked with people living with HIV and AIDS and with dual diagnosis cases involving co-occurring addiction and mental health disorders, as well as couples and individuals with bipolar disorder and PTSD.

Rick provides Christian counseling when requested, while maintaining an inclusive practice regardless of a person’s spiritual beliefs. He is trained in the stages of change and in motivational interviewing techniques, and he is certified to teach Developing Capable Young People, a course developed by the late Stephen Glen for caregivers of young people.

His goal is to build a therapeutic alliance grounded in love, acceptance, and support, and he aims for clients to leave each session with something practical they can apply to daily life. He maintains office hours Monday through Friday from 10:00 a.m. to 7:00 p.m. and on Saturday from 10:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m.; messages received after 8:00 p.m. will be answered the next morning as soon as possible, and he responds to all posts within 24 hours.

Please note his no-show policy: if an appointment for a live chat or video session will be missed, he asks for 24 hours’ notice. After a first no-show he will attempt to reschedule, but following a second consecutive no-show it is the client’s responsibility to contact him about rescheduling. He does not provide counseling on demand and will respond to messages within the timeframes noted above.

Is Online Therapy the Right Step Toward Better Mental Health?

Many people wonder whether remote therapy can truly help. For a range of common concerns - including stress, anxiety, depression, relationship challenges, and life transitions - research shows that online therapy can yield outcomes comparable to traditional in-person care. A key advantage is flexibility. You can connect with a therapist in the way that suits you best - video calls, phone sessions, live chat, or in-app messaging - which makes it easier to fit therapy into a busy routine and to choose the format that feels most comfortable. All therapists are licensed professionals, and you have the option to switch providers at any time if you want a different match.
