Nicole Merhaut was born and raised in California and earned a Bachelor of Arts in Psychology from Cal Poly Pomona in 2009. She later relocated to Florida and completed a Master of Science in Marriage and Family Therapy at Capella University in 2015. She also holds certifications in Applied Behavior Analysis and in Addictive and Compulsive Behaviors earned in 2016 and 2017. She is licensed in Florida to practice as a Marriage and Family Therapist; her license is MT3677.
Nicole has eight years of experience providing therapy and has worked with children, individuals, couples, and families in community mental health settings. Her prior roles have included Targeted Case Manager and Master Level Practitioner before becoming a licensed marriage and family therapist.
Her clinical experience covers a broad range of concerns, including stress and anxiety, depression, anger management, family conflict and co-parenting difficulties, substance misuse, eating-related issues, self-harm, trauma and abuse, intimacy-related concerns, addictions, ADHD, parenting challenges, self-esteem struggles, career difficulties, coping with medical issues such as Ehlers-Danlos Syndrome, and compassion fatigue.
Nicole draws on Cognitive Behavioral Therapy and Solution-Focused Therapy to help clients reach practical goals. She describes CBT as a way to explore how thoughts, feelings, and behaviors interact and influence daily life, and she uses Solution-Focused Therapy to collaborate with clients on present and future goals. Her style is warm, caring, and non-judgmental, with a commitment to helping people navigate and overcome life’s challenges. She looks forward to learning more about each person she works with and supporting them through difficult transitions.
Many people wonder whether online therapy can truly help. For common concerns such as stress, anxiety, depression, relationship difficulties, or managing life changes, evidence shows that remote therapy can be as effective as traditional in-person care.
One major benefit is flexibility. Clients can meet with their therapist in the format that suits them best - video sessions, phone calls, live chat, or in-app messaging - which makes it simpler to incorporate therapy into a busy schedule.
Therapists providing online care are licensed professionals, and clients have the option to switch therapists if they feel a different match would be better for their needs.
