Maxine Sutton congratulates anyone who decides to pursue change and acknowledges that life can feel heavy at times. She approaches therapy with empathy and a practical focus on easing that burden.
She holds a master’s degree from East Carolina University and is licensed to practice clinical social work in North Carolina, with an equivalent independent clinical social work license in South Carolina. Her professional aim is to help reduce stress and strengthen functioning across family and individual life domains.
Her clinical background includes work with North Carolina’s Department of Social Services Reunification Program and specialization in Multi-Systemic Therapy (MST), an evidence-based model aimed at keeping families together and preventing child displacement. Much of her experience has involved supporting families and couples to rebuild and strengthen relationships, while her outpatient practice has extended that work to individuals navigating life transitions and chronic stress.
Having also worked for several years as a prison therapist, she uses a strengths-based stance and meets clients where they are. She has over eight years of experience applying Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, Motivational Interviewing, and Solution-Focused Therapy to highlight existing resources and guide change. She listens actively, centers what clients say matters most, and works from a Reality Based approach to address mental health concerns honestly and directly.
Her current availability is Monday through Thursday, a time many people find themselves juggling work, family, and the countdown to the weekend. If prospective clients believe she could add value to their lives, she welcomes outreach and looks forward to working collaboratively toward their goals.
