Dr. Maria Clapp welcomes those who are taking time to address what feels difficult right now and offers supportive, professional guidance to help people regain balance. She is a licensed mental health counselor in Florida - her credentials include state licensure to practice mental health counseling (license MH6096) - and she is also certified as an addictions counselor and as a K-12 school counselor. In addition, she holds the Spanish equivalent of professional licensure in psychology, known as “Colegiada”.
With more than 25 years of experience working with youth, families, adults, and older adults, Dr. Clapp helps people manage negative emotions and behaviors that affect self-worth or lead to medication misuse and substance use. Her work covers a broad range of concerns and age groups, including youth ages 13 and up, adults ages 18 and up, and older adults ages 70 and up.
Dr. Clapp emphasizes building a trusting, honest relationship as the foundation for change rather than focusing solely on diagnostic labels. She uses a holistic lens to examine multiple areas of life that may be out of alignment and applies a solution-focused approach grounded in cognitive-behavioral strategies within a client-centered framework.
Her practice includes assessment and delivery of psychoeducational programs in parenting and anger management, as well as counseling for individuals addressing legal issues such as domestic violence, anger management, DUI, or other misdemeanor charges that require court-ordered mental health services. She also has experience supporting youth on the autism spectrum who experience social challenges at school and with peers.
Dr. Clapp holds a bachelor’s degree in Psychology, a master’s degree in Mental Health Counseling, and a doctorate in Organizational Leadership. She believes people act as leaders in many areas of their lives, and that feeling empowered and in charge often leads to more positive and productive outcomes for themselves and those around them. She looks forward to connecting soon.
Many people ask whether remote therapy can truly help. For common concerns such as stress, anxiety, depression, relationship difficulties, or adjusting to life changes, online therapy has been shown to be comparable in effectiveness to traditional in-person sessions for most people.
One major benefit is convenience - clients can choose the mode of connection that feels most comfortable, including video calls, phone sessions, live chat, or in-app messaging. This flexibility makes it easier to fit therapy into a busy schedule.
All therapists are licensed professionals, and clients have the option to switch providers if they prefer a different therapeutic fit. Online therapy offers an accessible way to pursue support for everyday mental health concerns while keeping the same professional standards as in-person care.
