Dr. Maria-Christina Kosteli is a BPS Chartered Psychologist, a registered EuroPsy Psychologist and a BACP registered counsellor. She holds professional recognition with the British Psychological Society, the EuroPsy framework and the British Association for Counselling and Psychotherapy.
She completed undergraduate studies at the National and Kapodistrian University of Athens, gained an MSc in Counselling Psychology from Springfield College in the USA and earned a PhD in Psychology from the University of Birmingham, UK.
In practice she uses the Person-Centred Approach, with a focus on self-development and self-actualisation, and complements this with training in Cognitive-Behavioural Therapy to create a blended, client-centred way of working.
Maria-Christina has extensive clinical experience gained across a range of settings including universities, a clinic for chronic conditions, a prevention centre, athletic teams and private practice. She currently works as an associate professor of Psychology at the University and offers online counselling in the evenings.
Her aim is to provide counselling and support to anyone who feels overwhelmed or is finding life difficult. Her clinical experience covers anxiety, relationship difficulties, low mood, a lack of purpose, bereavement and low self-esteem. She also has particular expertise and a special interest in supporting women who have experienced pregnancy-related issues such as miscarriage or baby loss, and couples who are facing infertility and difficulties conceiving. In addition, she has extensive training in stress management techniques - for example progressive muscle relaxation - and in mental skills training such as visualisation.
Many people wonder whether online therapy can make a real difference. For common concerns such as stress, anxiety, depression, relationship difficulties or navigating life changes, online therapy has been shown to be just as effective as traditional in-person sessions.
A key benefit is flexibility - individuals can choose the format that fits their routines and comfort, whether that is video calls, phone sessions, live chat or in-app messaging. This adaptability often makes it easier to maintain regular appointments and to integrate therapy into a busy schedule.
Sessions are provided by licensed professionals and therapists, and if someone feels they need a different fit they are free to switch to another practitioner. Online therapy can offer a practical and effective way to access support for many common mental health and life challenges.
