Linda Comeau is a licensed marital and family therapist in Connecticut with 30 years of experience in the mental health field. She has worked at all levels of care, from a variety of outpatient settings to inpatient psychiatric hospitalization.
Her professional interests span depression, anxiety, relationship issues in personal and professional contexts, effective parenting in biological and blended families, career difficulties, emotional abuse, women’s issues, codependency, medical and addiction concerns and their impact on family members, grief and loss, life changes, trauma and abuse, intimacy-related issues, parenting challenges, anger management, self-esteem, bipolar disorder, coaching, and compassion fatigue.
Training as a family therapist with a systems perspective provides her with a solid foundation for working with people of all ages across a wide range of situations. She earned a B.S. in Education at the University of Connecticut in 1973, an M.S. in Education from Central CT in 1976, and an M.S. in Counseling with a focus on Marital and Family Therapy from Central CT in 1992. Prior to clinical practice she taught in public schools for nearly two decades.
Her clinical approach is grounded in cognitive behavioral therapy and solution-focused methods, delivered in a positive, warm, and strength-based manner. She emphasizes adequate self-care and social supports, effective communication, healthy boundary setting, and realistic expectations as important components of life satisfaction.
She finds it rewarding when clients are able to make positive shifts in attitudes and behaviors that restore balance to their lives. Change requires courage, and when clients are ready to take that first step she is available to encourage and support them. She remains grateful to the people she has worked with and notes that she has learned from each person along the way.
She is always happy to hear from prospective clients.
