Kimberley VanHaitsma is a Michigan-based licensed master social worker who brings a compassionate, practical approach to therapy. She holds a Master of Social Work degree from Grand Valley State University and is licensed in Michigan as a master social worker (LMSW #6801092457). With ten years of professional experience, she draws on a varied background that began after a short career in nursing and spans work in geriatrics and crisis counseling with high-risk clients.
Her recent work has included supervising limited-license social workers as they pursue full licensure, a role she has held for the past five years. As a crisis counselor she routinely assessed safety concerns, conducted suicide assessments, and used solution-focused interventions to create immediate safety plans and arrange emergency services when necessary. In many crises she identified underlying issues such as substance abuse, domestic violence, or medication problems and responded with swift, intuitive assessment and planning.
Much of Kimberley’s current practice focuses on boundary setting, compassion fatigue, and self-care, while anxiety and depression frequently emerge as core issues that impact work performance and personal relationships. She favors a holistic perspective that recognizes how physical and mental health interact, and she has a particular commitment to supporting people living with chronic physical conditions as well as their often-exhausted caregivers.
Kimberley is flexible in her availability and can be reached by phone, text, or video. She is comfortable providing phone-based support, drawing on years of experience in crisis counseling, and is willing to address difficult topics and troubling thoughts directly. She looks forward to partnering with people who are ready to improve their mental health, pursue a sense of purpose, and seek greater happiness, and she offers steady support throughout that process.
