Kathleen Shapiro holds a Master of Science in Professional Clinical Counseling and is licensed to practice as a professional counselor in Pennsylvania. She brings twelve years of experience working with a wide range of concerns, including stress, anxiety, addictions and substance use disorders, trauma and abuse, depression, grief, life transitions, anger management, self-esteem issues, and bipolar disorder.
She approaches therapy with compassion, respect, and warmth, maintaining an engaging, person-first style that emphasizes collaboration. Kathleen is attentive to cultural and cross-cultural influences and tailors each session to meet clients where they are, drawing from cognitive-behavioral, dialectical-behavioral, person-centered, trauma-informed, and solution-focused methods to help clients identify and reach meaningful goals.
Goal-setting is treated as a team effort, with pacing and techniques adjusted to each person’s comfort level. Her work focuses on building practical skills that support self-discovery and long-term coping.
Outside of her clinical work, Kathleen enjoys spending time outdoors, taking walks on trails and in parks, and is working toward returning to jogging. She plays weekend softball and advocates for self-care and balanced living.
Kathleen recognizes that seeking counseling requires strength and can feel vulnerable or overwhelming. When someone is ready to take that step, she aims to support and empower them through the therapeutic process and looks forward to working together.
For many common concerns - such as stress, anxiety, depression, relationship challenges, or adjusting to life changes - online therapy has been shown to be comparable in effectiveness to traditional in-person sessions. It can be a practical option for people seeking convenient, consistent support.
A major benefit of remote therapy is flexibility. Individuals can connect with a therapist in the format that best suits their needs and schedule, whether by video calls, phone sessions, live chat, or in-app messaging. This flexibility often makes it easier to maintain regular sessions and integrate therapeutic work into everyday life.
Licensed professionals provide online therapy, and clients may switch therapists if they feel a different fit would be more helpful. For many people, the combination of demonstrated effectiveness and adaptable formats makes online therapy a viable way to pursue mental health goals.
