Kathleen Adams is a Colorado-licensed professional counselor with more than three decades of clinical experience. She has maintained a private practice since 1992 and works exclusively with adult clients.
Her therapeutic approach is rooted in humanistic psychology and is complemented by training in cognitive-behavioral methods and solution-focused therapy. By blending these orientations she helps people identify their core strengths and values and apply them to create meaningful change in areas such as depression and anxiety, communication and self-esteem, grief and loss, recovery from unhappy or unhealthy relationships, decision-making, life transitions, and women’s self-empowerment.
A long-time advocate of journal work, she defines journal therapy as the intentional use of life-based writing for healing, growth, and change. She began exploring this method in 1985 as a first-year counseling graduate student and has continued to use it as a therapeutic companion because it often speeds insight, clarity, and positive outcomes.
Adams has combined the roles of therapist, teacher and trainer, and author for over 30 years. Her first book, Journal to the Self, was published in 1990 and became an immediate best-seller that is now regarded as a classic in the field. Her thirteenth book, Journal Therapy for Calming Anxiety, was released in June 2020. As a Colorado-licensed professional counselor, she brings extensive training and long-standing clinical experience to her work.
