Karen Richardson is a licensed marriage and family therapist with 24 years of experience working in behavioral health. She provides services to children, teens, and adults and has practiced in both inpatient and outpatient settings.
Her clinical work includes individual, family, and group therapy delivered through community mental health centers and in-home visits. She has also provided services in criminal detention settings, supported family court processes, and worked in an intensive outpatient program serving dual diagnosis clients - those with both a substance use concern and a mental health need.
Karen holds a bachelor’s degree from Furman University, a master’s degree from the Southern Baptist Theological Seminary, and a post-master’s certificate in marriage and family therapy from the University of Louisville. She is a licensed marriage and family therapist licensed to practice in South Carolina and Florida.
Her areas of focused expertise include mood and anxiety disorders, chemical dependency, child and parenting challenges, and issues related to divorce. Together with broad experience in grief, trauma, mood stability, and mental illness symptomatology and treatment, she offers a wide range of therapeutic knowledge.
When requested, Karen can incorporate a Christian foundation into treatment to align therapy with a client’s faith perspective.
Many people ask whether online therapy can truly help. For common concerns such as stress, anxiety, depression, relationship difficulties, and life transitions, online therapy has been shown to be just as effective as traditional in-person sessions.
One significant benefit is flexibility - clients can connect in the format that works best for them, whether that is a video call, a phone session, live chat, or in-app messaging. This flexibility can make it easier to fit therapy into a busy schedule or to maintain continuity of care from different locations.
Licensed professionals provide online therapy services, and clients have the option to change therapists if they would prefer a different fit. For many people facing everyday mental health challenges, online therapy offers an accessible and effective path to support.
