Deirdre MacNamara is a BACP-registered counsellor (registered with the British Association for Counselling and Psychotherapy) practising in the Cheshire West area of England. With five years of direct experience, she has worked therapeutically with young people and adults, including older clients, addressing a range of concerns such as anxiety, relationship difficulties - including work and family issues, trauma, grief and loss, depression, gender identity matters and trauma experienced by key workers and first responders.
She brings an attentive, respectful stance to the therapeutic relationship, with a clear sensitivity to multicultural factors. Her background includes work with indigenous people and experience in multicultural work and educational settings. Her clinical experience spans individual therapy for a community health agency, educational contexts and private practice.
Deirdre understands people as shaped by close relationships, their environments, personal histories and family systems, and she strives to hold the therapy relationship with compassion, respect and warmth. Her practice draws on Mindfulness, Compassion Focused Therapy, Compassionate Enquiry and the Rogerian person-centred approach, which is founded on the view that individuals have an innate capacity to realise their potential when offered unconditional positive regard, honesty, transparency and empathic understanding.
She aims to meet clients where they are, adapting her methods and collaborating with each person to work toward their goals. Acknowledging that change requires courage and determination, Deirdre is available to support and empower those taking the first steps toward a more fulfilling life.
