Deborah Tommey is a Licensed Professional Counselor in Oklahoma, holding a Master of Counseling from Oklahoma State University-Tulsa and practicing for 14 years. She focuses on adult clients and prefers to work with people aged 25 and older.
She brings extensive experience with the aging population and caregivers, and has led support groups for a variety of populations and diagnoses. Deborah has also provided training and education for other professionals on numerous behavioral health topics.
Her clinical areas of expertise include stress, anxiety, trauma and abuse, grief and loss, depression, self-esteem struggles, LGBT concerns, relationship issues, family conflicts, sleeping disorders, anger management, career difficulties, coping with life changes, coaching, compassion fatigue, and ADHD. She is also experienced with dementia and cognitive impairment, hoarding disorder, sexuality, and personality-related concerns.
Deborah assesses each person to identify which approaches are likely to be most effective. She predominately practices person-centered and solution-focused therapy while incorporating techniques from Gestalt and existential traditions when appropriate. Mindfulness and other holistic strategies are used as needed to support emotional and physical well-being.
Known for an optimistic and empathic stance, she strives to create a supportive, comfortable atmosphere and encourages client autonomy, often asking, “what difference or change do you want to achieve?” Phone and video sessions are the preferred formats for her practice; she is less inclined toward live chat but uses messaging for important communication between sessions.
Deborah aims to guide and support clients through the therapy process toward the goals that brought them to seek help.
