David Wright takes a goal-oriented, whole-person approach to therapy that also considers the client’s support system. He practices a client-centered model that respects each person’s background and personality, and he frequently employs cognitive methods to identify and change unhelpful or destructive thought patterns.
In addition to traditional counseling techniques, David is a certified hypnotist and hypnotherapist who works with clients seeking change through hypnosis, including goals such as weight loss and smoking cessation. He began helping others at age 17, spending seven summers working as a counselor for adolescents at a summer camp, and later completed a Bachelor’s degree in Psychology and a Master’s degree in Counseling.
With 24 years of counseling experience, David currently serves as the Clinical Director of an outpatient mental health facility in Taylor, Michigan. He is licensed to practice as a professional counselor in Michigan (MI LPC 6401002994) and is also recognized as a National Certified Counselor. He continues to work clinically as a therapist and performs hypnosis stage shows under the name The Motor City Hypnotist.
Many people wonder whether virtual counseling can truly help. For common challenges such as stress, anxiety, depression, relationship difficulties, or major life transitions, online therapy has been shown to be comparable in effectiveness to traditional in-person treatment.
One of the main benefits is flexibility - clients can connect in the format that best fits their needs and schedule, whether that’s a video appointment, a phone session, live chat, or messaging within an app. This adaptability makes it easier to maintain continuity of care without rearranging work or family commitments.
Licensed professionals provide online services, and if a particular therapist is not the right match, clients have the option to change providers. For many people, remote therapy offers a practical and effective way to address everyday mental health concerns while fitting treatment into a busy life.
