David West is a licensed clinical social worker in South Carolina, holding the credential SC LISW-CP 10894. He received his master’s degree in social work with a specialty in adults and families from the University of Alabama in 2012 and brings six years of clinical experience to his practice.
He has worked in both outpatient clinic settings and inpatient hospital settings within the VA hospital system, as well as in community mental health. For the past two years he coordinated a college outreach and counseling program, which broadened his clinical experience to include young adults in addition to adults and families. Much of his work has focused on veterans, and he has also had opportunities to work with teens across a range of settings.
Throughout his career he has supported people facing depression, anxiety, trauma and abuse, substance use concerns, grief, relationship difficulties, family conflict, anger and intimacy-related issues, sleeping disorders, parenting challenges, self-esteem and career difficulties, bipolar disorder, and addictions. He has served on multiple committees related to the development and implementation of treatment approaches and feels well-versed in effective options for a variety of emotional struggles.
His approach to care begins by helping clients feel comfortable and respected, offering unconditional positive regard to build a trusting therapeutic relationship. He emphasizes identifying personal strengths and using those strengths to overcome barriers. He is certified in various treatment modalities, and endeavors to be warm and open so sessions foster constructive, positive dialogue. Clear goals and client-established guidelines drive the work together, since he prioritizes patient-centered care and believes clients should direct their own treatment goals.
David checks and responds to messages multiple times daily and is available for sessions most weekdays between 8am and 6pm. He can also accommodate later appointment times or weekends when that better fits a client’s schedule, understanding that jobs, family, and other responsibilities can make traditional hours difficult. He looks forward to working with you.
