Daniel Rothenberg

Holistic Jungian therapist specializing in trauma and relationships

About

Dan Rothenberg

Hello and welcome to my site! I am an LCSW and I specialize in adolescents and young adults that suffer from chronic anxiety and stress, just like I did. I spent much of my younger years in a state of worry and panic. Even when things appeared to be going well, I never had enough friends to make me feel secure and work always felt overwhelming. My solutions were avoidance, procrastination and adrenaline, all of which made my world smaller, my self-esteem lower and (the real kicker) my anxiety worse. Anxiety can be particularly frustrating because:

1. People don’t get it, which leads to lectures and advice that don’t help.

2. Our attempts to avoid or eliminate anxiety actually make it worse.

3. Traditional talk therapy often does not address the issue.

Fortunately, anxiety treatment has made significant strides since I was a child in the ‘80’s. I currently work under the model of Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT). ACT has helped many of my clients to break the anxiety cycle that makes us a prisoner to the annoying, negative thoughts that we know in our hearts to be false.

How does it work? ACT is a relatively simple approach that is empirically proven to be effective with children and adults. All it takes is practice and, most importantly, an open mind. If there is one thing I have learned from my personal and professional experience, effective strategies to manage chronic anxiety can initially appear confusing or counterintuitive. Remember, the solutions we gravitate towards (avoidance/withdrawal) might provide temporary relief, but ultimately increase long-term anxiety. Conversely, ACT encourages us to face our fears and stop struggling with our negative thoughts and feelings. This can seem either scary or impossible because these thoughts and feelings appear to be so powerful. They’re not! It just takes practice and a willingness to engage the process.

I believe therapy should be safe, fun and productive. I create a trusting and comfortable space for my clients. At the same time, I believe that therapy should be as short and inexpensive as possible. Therefore, together we will move towards change that will bring you measurable relief in your daily life rather than just a weekly 50-minute distraction.

I’m ready if you are. I can’t wait to work with you!

About

Daniel Rothenberg is a licensed clinical social worker practicing in Oregon with eight years of clinical experience working with adolescents and young adults. He focuses on stress, anxiety, and self-esteem, and holds Oregon licensure as an LCSW (license L7307).

He understands chronic anxiety from personal experience. As a young person he spent long stretches worried and on edge, and even during outwardly successful times he struggled with a sense of insecurity and social isolation. His early coping habits included avoidance, procrastination, and relying on adrenaline, patterns that narrowed his life, reduced his self-worth, and ultimately increased his anxiety.

Rothenberg recognizes why anxiety can feel so defeating: many people do not understand it and respond with unhelpful lectures or advice; efforts to avoid anxious feelings often amplify them; and traditional talk therapy may not always address the patterns that maintain anxiety. These observations shape how he approaches treatment.

He practices from the framework of Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT). ACT is a straightforward, evidence-supported approach that has helped both children and adults break cycles of struggle with negative thoughts. Rothenberg emphasizes practice and an open-minded willingness to try strategies that can feel counterintuitive at first – for example, approaching feared thoughts rather than attempting to eliminate them – because the familiar coping moves that provide short-term relief often worsen anxiety over time.

Therapy with Rothenberg is intended to be safe, engaging, and outcome-focused. He aims to create a trusting, comfortable space while helping clients move toward meaningful change as efficiently as possible, prioritizing measurable relief in daily life rather than prolonged sessions that become routine distractions. He is ready to begin when clients are and looks forward to working with them.

Is Online Therapy the Right Step Toward Better Mental Health?

For many common concerns such as stress, anxiety, depression, relationship challenges, or life transitions, online therapy has been found to be comparable in effectiveness to traditional in-person treatment. This makes remote therapy a viable option for those seeking help with everyday mental health needs.

One major benefit is flexibility. People can choose the communication method that fits their comfort and schedule best – video sessions, phone calls, live chat, or in-app messaging – which can make it simpler to integrate therapy into a busy life.

All participating clinicians are licensed professionals, and clients have the option to switch therapists if they need a different fit. This combination of accessibility and professional credentialing allows many individuals to pursue meaningful progress without changing other parts of their routine.

Ultimately, online therapy offers a practical alternative to in-person care for those looking to address common mental health concerns while keeping treatment adaptable to daily life.
