Colleen Canfield-Smith creates a warm, safe, and supportive space where people can explore the challenges they face and build on their existing strengths. With a belief in the power of the therapeutic partnership, she works collaboratively to uncover resources clients already possess and to support the changes they want to make. She welcomes each person she meets and acknowledges the courage it takes to reach out for help.
Over 21 years, Colleen has worked in schools, hospitals, community service agencies, and primary care offices, and she also draws on her lived experience as a mother of three children and two large dogs. Those varied roles have informed her understanding of the practical and emotional issues clients face in everyday life.
She holds a master’s degree in counseling psychology from Boston College and has earned Certifications in Integrated Behavioral Health for both Pediatrics and Primary Care. Colleen is licensed as a mental health counselor in New York and Massachusetts and uses a combination of cognitive-behavioral, solution-focused, and strength-based approaches to help with life changes, depression, anxiety, parenting concerns, and job stress, among other issues.
Colleen incorporates humor, relaxation training, and mindfulness techniques as part of her work, and she respects that clients are the experts on their own needs. Her style is professional yet approachable, centered on collaboration and practical strategies to meet each client’s goals.
Many people wonder whether online therapy can truly help. For common concerns such as stress, anxiety, depression, relationship challenges, or adjusting to life changes, online therapy has been shown to be as effective as traditional in-person care for most people.
One major benefit is flexibility - clients can connect in the way that suits them best, whether through video calls, phone sessions, live chat, or in-app messaging. This flexibility makes it easier to fit therapy into a busy life and to maintain continuity of care.
Licensed professionals provide online therapy, and clients have the option to change therapists if they need a different fit. For many, virtual sessions offer a practical, accessible way to work through concerns and build coping skills with a trained therapist.
