Dr. Carissa Ferguson-thomas holds a Doctorate and a Master’s degree in Clinical Psychology from the Philadelphia College of Osteopathic Medicine, as well as both a Master’s and a Bachelor’s degree in Social Work from Temple University. She is licensed to practice as a psychologist in New Jersey and is also licensed as a clinical social worker in Pennsylvania. With 22 years of clinical experience, she has provided individual, couples, and family therapy across a range of concerns.
Trained in cognitive behavioral therapy, Dr. Ferguson-thomas blends that foundation with an eclectic, person-centered, and trauma-informed approach. She meets each person where they are and collaborates with them to explore options and develop practical plans to address the challenges they face. Her work spans issues such as depression, anxiety, panic disorder, phobias, obsessive-compulsive disorder, relationship and intimacy difficulties, family conflicts, parenting concerns, grief and loss, trauma and abuse, anger management, self-esteem struggles, and coping with life changes.
Beginning therapy can feel stressful, and Dr. Ferguson-thomas aims to reduce that barrier by offering a warm, nonjudgmental environment where clients can express their thoughts and feelings openly. She emphasizes the importance of a trusting therapeutic relationship as the foundation for lasting change and works together with clients to identify strengths, overcome barriers, and move toward their goals. She practices in New Jersey and brings a compassionate, experienced presence to each therapeutic relationship.
