Andrew Merritt brings a broad personal and professional background shaped by living in several U.S. states and abroad, and he approaches cultural differences with a positive regard that recognizes diversity as part of everyday life.
He is a Licensed Professional Counselor licensed in both Colorado and Oklahoma, and he holds a master’s degree in Counseling. Based in Oklahoma, he has practiced counseling for 20 years, working with families and youth, individuals, couples, and people facing serious mental health challenges.
His career also includes experience leading organizations, where he worked with personnel and leadership to motivate staff and pursue constructive outcomes. Clinically, he has received training in Trauma-Focused Cognitive Behavioral Therapy and Cognitive Processing Therapy, and he typically uses an eclectic approach tailored to the needs of individuals, families, couples, and adolescents.
Andrew often uses a Socratic style of questioning and exploration, combined with gentle challenge when appropriate, particularly when working with survivors of trauma or when addressing unhelpful belief patterns that interfere with daily coping. He emphasizes examining patterns of functioning and learning new skills and routines—including traditions and celebrations—to help people move toward thriving rather than merely surviving.
He views counseling as a shared journey that he is honored to take briefly with clients and their loved ones, always working with respect for who they are and how they hope to grow and overcome the challenges they face.
Many people wonder whether remote counseling can truly help. For common concerns such as stress, anxiety, depression, relationship difficulties, and major life transitions, online therapy has been shown to be just as effective as traditional in-person sessions.
One major benefit is flexibility - clients can choose the format that fits their life and comfort level, whether that is video calls, phone sessions, live chat, or in-app messaging. This flexibility makes it easier to schedule work, family, and other commitments around therapy.
All participating clinicians are licensed professionals, and if someone feels they need a different fit, it is possible to switch therapists. For many people, online therapy offers an accessible, effective way to address everyday mental health concerns while fitting treatment into a busy life.
